Getting Ready for the First Weeks of Class.
Everything you need to get started with learning tools, build your digital skills, and find technical support when you need it.
Whether you are new to college or returning for another semester, this guide will help you get connected, access your courses, use learning technologies and find support when you need it.
Explore MyCanvas, your learning hub at Mohawk College.
Use MyCanvas to access your course outline and lesson plans, learning content, contact your instructor, submit assignments and take quizzes, participate in learning activities, check due dates, grades, and feedback, and find the link to your next online class.
We recommend exploring options to customize your dashboard in the way that best supports your work, and setting up notifications to make sure you don't miss anything. We also recommend using Chrome as your browser for MyCanvas.
Ready to get started? Log in from the Mohawk College homepage under "Login", or follow this link to MyCanvas.
Please note that a Canvas by Instructor app is available. While we strongly recommend engaging in your courses through the web version of Canvas to ensure access to all tools and resources, the app can be handy for staying on top of announcements, grade postings, and due dates while you're on the go. Download the app through your app store.
Important note: Most of your courses will not show up in MyCanvas until the first day of class. Don't worry -- if you are registered, you'll have automatic access to your MyCanvas sites.
Log in to Microsoft 365 (MS365), your toolkit for academic success.
Access your email, use Word for assignments, PowerPoint for presentations, Excel for data and calculations, Teams for online classes, and OneDrive to securely store and access your files from anywhere.
MS365 is provided to registered students at no extra cost.
MS Teams, one of the tools available to you in MS365, is where your online classes happen. We recommend downloading MS Teams to your computer, as the app provides the most robust and user-friendly experience in comparison to the web version of Teams.
Outlook is another tool that can be downloaded as an app to your phone or other devices, which supports you in keeping on top of your Mohawk College email -- an important habit to build as this is the email the College will use to contact you about important deadlines and updates.
OneDrive is another resource offered in MS365. We recommend getting in the habit of saving files to OneDrive so you can access them from any device, automatically back up your work, and easily share documents with instructors and groupmates. Every student has ample storage provided as part of your MS365 package.
Ready to explore MS365? Log in from the Mohawk College homepage under "Login". Want to learn more? Follow this link to a helpful Microsoft 365 article.
Connect your devices to Mohawk-WiFi.
Mohawk-WiFi is your connection to secure wireless internet access across Mohawk College campuses and helps you stay connected to your courses, email, learning technologies and online resources.
Follow these steps to access Mohawk-Wifi.
1. Open WiFi settings on your device.
2. Select Mohawk-WiFi.
3. Log in using your 9-digit MohawkID (ex., 00010160@mohawkcollege.ca) and password.
Set up Multifactor Authentication (MFA).
MFA protects your account and allows you to securely access College accounts. The College uses Single Sign-On (SSO) to allow you to use one MohawkID and password to access multiple College systems and applications to help keep things safe and manageable for everyone.
MFA is required for every Mohawk College student and employee.
Ready to get started? Visit the IT Multifactor Authentication resource page and follow the steps to enroll in Multifactor Authentication. Contact IT's Student Tech Support with any questions or technical issues.
Set Chrome as your browser for Mohawk College work.
Chrome is the browser of choice at Mohawk College, as it supports the most robust and reliable access to our online environments and tools.
Need Chrome? Download it for free from Google.
Check out MohawkAPPs, your gateway to College software via MyMohawk.
Access college-licensed software from anywhere with an internet connection. MohawkAPPS provides access to many of the software applications you may need for your courses.
Visit MohawkAPPs to learn more about how to access the MohawkAPPS Software Hub.
Use MyMohawk to check your timetable often in the first two weeks of classes.
Enrolment and other factors can lead to unavoidable last-minute adjustments to class locations and times. We recommend checking your timetable often to ensure you are in the right place at the right time.
To check your timetable, log in from the Mohawk College homepage under "Login", or follow this link to MyMohawk, then navigate to the Registration Resources tab. Scroll down to see options for viewing and printing your timetable.
Contact your program coordinator with any program- or course-specific questions.
Program coordinators are faculty who teach in your program area, and are there to help you understand what is needed in your program and to offer you support.
To find out who your coordinator is, go to the program page on the College website, select your program, and scroll down for program coordinator information.
Familiarize yourself with the many supports available at the College.
Mohawk College is committed to supporting your success in and out of class. The Future Ready Toolkit offers great advice and information to students getting started each semester.
